On Jan. 21, Planned Parenthood Illinois Action celebrated the 43rd anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade, which confirmed that the constitutionally protected right to privacy includes every woman's right to make her own personal medical decisions without the interference of politicians.
More than 600 guests attended the fundraiser held at City Winery.
Illlinois state Sen. Daniel Biss was honored with the Richard J. Phelan Profile in Courage Award for his leadership in promoting access to comprehensive reproductive health care and sexual-health education and for his vocal support for reproductive rights. Lorie Chaiten, director of the ACLU of Illinois' Reproductive Rights Project, received the Dr. Marvin Rosner Lifetime Achievement Award for her 30-year legal career protecting and advancing reproductive rights through litigation and advocacy.
Congressman Mike Quigley was the event's honorary co-chair. Special guests included Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Congressman Luis Gutierrez, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Congressman Bill Foster and Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
