CHICAGO Today, December 3, 2019, Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced its endorsement of Bobby Rush ( IL-01 ), Robin Kelly ( IL-02 ), JeÅ›us "Chuy" GarcÃa ( IL-04 ), Danny Davis ( IL-07 ), Raja Krishnamoorthi ( IL-08 ), Brad Schneider ( IL-10 ) and Bill Foster( IL-11 ) to protect the health and rights of Illinoisans. This announcement is part of the Action Fund's continued endorsement of federal candidates committed to reproductive health and rights around the country.
"We are thrilled with Planned Parenthood Action Fund's endorsement of U.S. Representatives Rush, Kelly, GarcÃa, Davis, Krishnamoorthi, Schneider and Foster," said President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Illinois Action Jennifer Welch. "Time and again these representatives have fought for access to quality health care without restriction for their constituents. The Trump-Pence administration has created a hostile environment for reproductive health care by enacting the gag rule and forcing Planned Parenthood out of the long-standing Title X program. These key representatives have helped make Illinois a regional haven for abortion access and rights in the Midwest."
Welch continues, "More than 70,000 patients rely on Planned Parenthood health centers for reproductive health care in Illinois each year. Now more than ever before, those patients, and all Illinoisans, need champions like these candidates to fight for access to care in Congress."
This year, 26 abortion bans have been passed in states across the country, meaning that people are having to cross state lines or endure long wait times just to access basic care. In 2018, the American people sent more women and women of color to Congress than ever before, and flipped the House of Representatives to a clear pro-reproductive health majority. In 2020, there is an opportunity to flip the Senate and have a full Congress that will protect people's health and rights.
