WILMETTE - Gather under a full moon on Saturday, May 5, at Plaza del Lago in Wilmette for the inaugural Chicago-area Pink Moon Run & Walk 8K, created and produced by A Sister's Hope, to raise money for breast cancer research.
The Pink Moon adds a new dimension on the journey to find better treatments and a cure for breast cancer. Participants will gather on a late Saturday afternoon to join forces to fund research teams. The route travels south along Sheridan Road, winding past beautiful homes, along the scenic lakefront and right past the impressive architecture of the Bahai Temple. Runners and walkers return to a pink plaza of cheering family and friends for the awards and closing ceremony.
This run/walk is a fund raising event. While it also increases/maintains awareness about breast cancer, the event's purpose is to raise the funding researchers need to make significant progress. The minimum donation requirement is $80 per adult (less for children and women/men who have had breast cancer) because 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Prizes will be awarded to top fundraisers, as well as top male and female finishers in the run.

Thanks to the generous support of Kiki Calumet of A and N Mortgage Services, 100% of donations raised by the Pink Moon Run & Walk is going to breast cancer research projects of Dr. Seema Khan at Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, Northwestern University Medical Center, Chicago, and to Prof. JoEllen Welsh, Cancer GeNYsis Center, University of New York at Albany.
A Sister's Hope, a non-profit organization founded by Chicagoan Cathy Seabaugh in the U.S. in 2006 and in The Netherlands in 2007, has raised nearly $5 million for breast cancer researchers in the past five years. A Sister's Hope produces the Pink Moon Run & Walk, Take a Swing at Breast Cancer golf tournaments, and an annual 60K Walk.
