An upcoming LGBT-friendly housing project takes center stage in a new short film submitted as part of an architectural-themed film contest.
The three-minute film, entitled John Pennycuff, focuses on the creation of the John Pennycuff Memorial Apartments at Castillo Plaza, a Logan Square development set to open in 2019. Named after the late activist John Pennycuff and his husband, Robert Castillo, the complex was approved by the Chicago City Council in July.
The film features interviews with Castillo; Ald. Proco Joe Moreno ( 1st Ward ), who shepherded the project; and the building's principal designers. It was submitted as part of the I Look Up Film Challenge, an online contest highlighting films about architectural projects that improve their communities.
