Lovana 'Lou' Jones , an Illinois state representative who was an assistant majority leader of the House, died May 8 after a bout with pneumonia. She was 68.
Her death marked the end of a two-decade career as an advocate for ex-convicts, children and women. Jones, who represented the 26th District on the South Side of Chicago, held a House leadership role for six of her 10 terms. The Ohio native also served as head of the House Public Safety Appropriations Committee.
Jones is survived by her son, Timothy Walker, and several grandchildren. Her daughter, Leslie, and husband preceded her in death.
A wake took place May 15 at Metropolitan Apostolic Community Church, 4100 S. King. Funeral services were held the following day.
