2003-03-01

[An event that will bring together more than a thousand women]

* Otra voz de la sociedad civil organizada. [Another voice from organized civil society]

Twenty five years into the Lesbian Movement in Mexico, lesbian feminists proclaim our need for autonomous spaces that do not compromise our ethics in the construction of a society that is critical of heterosexism, neoliberalism and other fundamentalisms through the First Lesbian March of Mexico and Latin America.

The First Lesbian March Mexico 2003, hopes to bring unity while recognizing the political diversity within the LGBT movement. And while we continue to support the LGBT march, we want as lesbians to have a public voice that is autonomous, heterogeneous, positive and free. The march will be an expression of our rebellious spirit as lesbians.

The Lesbian March is to us an important expression of visibility because it breaks away from stereotypes and prejudices while also providing an opportunity to find role models and reference points that allow us to proudly reconcile ourseleves with an open lesbian idenity before society.

Participamos en la gestación de esta marcha histórica distintas organizaciones ademas de muchas lesbianas independentes, a saber: Archivo Histórico Lésbico, Diversiles (de Guadalajara), Lesbianas en Colectiva, LesLibros, Mujeres y Cultura Subterránea, Mujeres Azules, Patlatonalli A. C. (de Guadalajara), Prensa Editorial LeS VOZ, A. C., Telemanita A. C., y Grupo Génesis. The following organizations as well as many independent lesbians participate in the organization of this march: Archivo Histórico Lésbico, Diversiles (from Guadalajara), Lesbianas en Colectiva, LesLibros, Mujeres y Cultura Subterránea, Mujeres Azules, Patlatonalli A. C. (from Guadalajara), Prensa Editorial LeS VOZ, A. C., Telemanita A. C., and Grupo Génesis.
