Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays ( PFLAG ) will honor four people who were critical in the passage of Senate Bill 3186, known as the gay-rights bill, through the Illinois legislature.
A gala dinner entitled 'No Family Left Behind' will laud the efforts of State Rep. Larry McKeon; Rick Garcia, political director of Equality Illinois; Art Johnston, Equality Illinois board member; and State Sen. Carol Ronen. The gathering is scheduled for April 29 at Kendall College, 900 N. North Branch, 6:30-11. In addition to dining, there will be a silent auction as well as entertainment provided by Miss Foozie.
All proceeds will go to fund PFLAG's Stay Close ad campaign in Illinois. Stay Close will feature print ads of celebrities and a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender relative. The ads promote celebration of diversity and family and will run in various locations throughout the state. Cindy Lauper, Richard and Chrissy Gephardt, Barbara Cook, Ben Affleck, talkshow host Christina Saralegui, Rep. Gregory Meeks, among others, have agreed to be part of this campaign.
