Melvin "Mel" Earl Koschnitzki—a retired cosmologist/hairstylist and veteran of the U.S. Navy and Reserves—passed away unexpectedly at home Dec. 4. He was 72.
Born June 19, 1940, in Chicago, Koschnitzki attended high school in Oak Lawn and went on to own Golden Touch Hair Salon. He was the beloved partner of 26 years to Thomas A. Firestone, brother-in-law of Jeanne Koschnitzki and uncle of many. Koschnitzki was preceded in death by partner of 13 years, James Mueller; parents Henry John and Florence Julia (Tanke) Koschnitzki; brothers Richard K. and John H. (Harriet); and nephews Jeffrey and John Koschnitzki. There was a private inurnment at Rosehill Cemetery.
