NewTown Writers Board Member, author and performer Cookie Crumbles (also known as Russell Neumann), who enriched so many of NTW's events and workshops with her warmth, intelligence and vivacity, passed away Dec. 27 due to cancer. She was 63. Her loving spirit will always be with us.
A Service of remembrance for Cookie will be held Sunday, Jan. 13, from 1-4 p.m. at Howard Mohr Community Center, 7640 Jackson Boulevard, Forest Park. The memorial ceremony will begin at 2. A suggested donation in an envelope with a contribution for Grace (her partner) to help pay Cookie's final medical expenses is requested in lieu of flowers.
"In honor of her contributions and dedication to NewTown Writers, we would like form an award to transgender writers, in her name," says NTW President, Timothy Rey. "I think she would have liked that."
