Alan Mora passed away July 29 at age 36.
Mora was born March 7, 1976 in Fostoria, Ohio, to Albert and Lynn Mora.
At 17, he moved to Chicago, where he could be himselfa young gay man and first settled in Boystown. He worked at various jobs and made lots of friends. He met Jeff Tiritilli and Lindsey Hooppaw, and instantly they became a family unit; they adopted each other and became inseparable. They were put into the Chicago Gay History site a few years ago.
Then in his 20s, he became venue coordinator for the Chicago Beef Dancers. Upon leaving that job, he worked at several downtown hotels before finally working at Days Inn on Diversey as night clerk.
Mora had a passion for old B-movies, including everything from John Waters. He loved to make people laugh and smile. He also adopted Franki Scinto, his roommate, as his brother. They, too, were inseparable.
For over a year he bravely fought cancer until succumbing to it. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his adopted grandparents, George and Mary Hooppaw. Surviving are his father and stepmother, Shirley; his adopted parents; two sisters,; a brother; and several cousins, aunts and uncles, both biological and adopted. There are also a grandmother and his adopted brother and roommate, Frankie Scinto.

He was born March 7, 1976 to the late Lynn Niswander Mora-Plott and Albert M. (Shirley) Mora.
Survivors include three siblings, Alisa Mora (Thomas) Gebauer, Anthony Mora and Chelsie Plott; grandparents Brenda and Bud Niswander and Juanita Mora (Gilbert) Martinez; and three beloved cats. Alan was preceded in death by a grandfather, Guadalupe Mora.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Frankie Scinto, Alan's good friend and caregiver, as well as Rush Hospital and its staff.
