Upsets marked several other of the aldermanic runoff contests.
Incumbents Natasha Holmes (7th) and Lona Lane (18th) lost their runoff races. Also, 31st Ward candidate Milagros "Milly" Santiago edging incumbent Regner "Ray" Suarez, 50.8 percent to 49.2 percent (with all precincts reporting) in what many have called a huge upset, and Chris Taliaferro toppled Deborah Graham in a close race.
Caroline Vickrey edged 43rd Ward Ald. Michele Smith, unofficially winning by six votes (6,791 to 6,785).
Brian Hopkins prevailed in a competitive race against Alyx Pattison, becoming the new alderman of the 2nd Ward. Bob Fioretti was the ward's previous alderman, but relinquished the post to run for mayor, coming up short in the primary.
