Chicago — Community organizer Carlos Ramirez-Rosa will formally announce his candidacy for 35th Ward Alderman against incumbent Alderman Rey Colon Sept. 6 at noon at Fireman's Park, corner of Diversey, Kimball and Milwaukee.
Carlos Ramirez-Rosa is a former Congressional aide in the office of U.S. Representative Luis V. Gutierrez, and current deportation defense organizer with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. His campaign said he is a proud product of the Chicago Public Schools, and a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He's an active member of the Avondale-Logandale Local School Council, and his union, the National Organization of Legal Service Workers, UAW Local 2320.
His announcement stated: "He will fight to raise the minimum wage, keep housing affordable, and improve public schools. Carlos will put 35th Ward residents in charge of local zoning and budgetary decisions, fight the corporate handouts that take money from our schools, and will cut his own salary to make sure city services like snow plowing and pothole repair run smoothly in the ward."
