Neil Patrick Harris was not the Academy's first choice to host the 2015 Oscars, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron first begged last year's host, Ellen DeGeneres, but she was firmly against hosting the ceremony for a third time. The producers next had comedian Chris Rock on their list, but a deal failed to materialize. Producers then expressed interest in Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who also said no.

Speaking of Harris, he joked in his new memoir Choose Your Own Autobiography that a kiss from legendary actor Burt Reynolds made him gay, according to Uproxx.com . It was while appearing on B.L. Stryker that show star Burt Reynolds kissed him. Harris writes, "As a joke at the end of one take, Burt leans over and kisses you square on the mouth. The crew thinks this is very funny, but it makes you uncomfortable. Uncomfortable and, it will ultimately turn out, gay. Burt Reynolds' kiss makes you gay."

And in even more NPH-related news, Harris has partnered with NBC to develop a variety show based on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, the long-running program that airs on the U.K.'s ITV, Variety reported. NBC has ordered 10 episodes from ITV Studios America, all of which will be filmed in front of a live audience. The show will feature comedy sketches, musical numbers, mini game shows, hidden camera pranks on celebrities and appearances by A-list stars.

Producers of the new drama film Freeheld, in which Julianne Moore and Ellen Page play a lesbian couple, say administrators of an all-boys Roman Catholic high school in New York ( Salesian High School ) won't allow a scene from the movie to be filmed on its campus after initially agreeing to the shoot, E! Online reported. Actress/Activist Sheryl Lee Ralph's DIVA Foundation held its 24th Annual HIV/AIDS benefit concert "Divas Simply Singing" Oct. 18 at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Los Angeles, according to the organization's website. Kohlberger called out "Horror Story" for its character Twisty the Clown, saying Hollywood turns any situation that's good and pure into a "nightmare."
