The National Center for Lesbian Rights will benefit from an event hosted by Chicago-area lesbian philanthropist Sarah Schmidt Saturday, Oct. 18, 5-7 p.m. in Wilmette.

Schmidt, a National Leadership Council member of NCLR, is also a co-founder of LPAC, the national lesbian political action committee.

Kate Kendell, Esq., NCLR executive director, said the program will update guests on NCLR's work:

— Fighting for marriage equality and gaining full legal recognition for all LGBT relationships and families.

— Protecting LGBT youth from the dangerous practice of conversion therapy.

— Assisting LGBT immigrants who are fighting to keep their families together or gain asylum from persecution and civil unrest.

— Confronting rampant anti-LGBT bias in sports through NCLR's Sports Project.

— Working towards ensuring access to safe and affordable transgender healthcare.

— Working closely with federal agencies to ensure that services are fully accessible to LGBT people and families in rural America.

For questions, contact Development Events Manager Dani Siragusa at Events@NCLRights.org or 415-365-1309. See support.nclrights.org/site/Calendar .
