Naperville Democrat Denika McMillen said she plans to run for Republican state Rep. Grant Wehrli's seat in the 2020 election, The Chicago Tribune reported.
McMillen, a licensed clinical social worker, is a co-founder of the group Naper Pride. According to its website, "Naper Pride is a family centered, Naperville focused celebration of LGBTQ+ members of our city and community."
The new candidate is a busy individual. In addition to working at her private practice, DSM Counseling, and work at a counseling office in Oak Park, she drives for Lyft and referees basketball and has delivered for DoorDash. "Whatever it takes to make sure my family's OK, I'm doing it," she said.
Wehrli is the assistant minority leader in the Illinois House. He was first elected in 2014.
