Attorney and activist Jacob Meister, on Aug. 18, will present his credentials to the Democratic Committeemen of Cook County's Slating Committee as a candidate for Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Meister is seeking a run against incumbent Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown, who has held the office since 2000.
In an Aug. 17 statement, Meister said, "The time to fix Cook County is now and the place to start is the office of Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County. Clerk Dorothy Brown has let people languish in jail because the paperwork is lost. Her inefficiency causes citizens and municipalities to waste time and lose money every single day. I am running because Cook County can no longer afford Dorothy Brown."
Meister, who founded the advocacy organization The Civil Rights Agenda, has been active in a number of LGBT and Democratic causes. He made a bid for the U.S. Senate in 2010 but withdrew shortly before the primary; the seat eventually went to Sen. Mark Kirk.
The slating committee meeting will take place Aug. 18 at 9 a.m. at the Erie Cafe, 536 W. Erie St.
