Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker's administration announced the next set of state directors—including Mario Treto Jr., who will serve as the director of real estate for the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation, according to a release from The Attorneys at Walczak Hernandez, P.C.

Treto is the third Latinx and second openly LGBTQ state director appointee.

Treto—currently deputy city attorney for the City of Evanston—will head regulation of the State of Illinois' real-estate industry, overseeing professional education, licensure, regulation and discipline for nearly 100,000 licensees working in six real estate related professions. His final appointment is pending confirmation approval from the state Senate.

He received his Juris Doctor from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law and his bachelor of arts in biology and psychology from Washington University in St. Louis.
