Gay Indian prince visits Michigan
India's Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil was recently in Saugatuck, Michigan, to discuss his new public awareness campaign, "Free Gay India," during a royal brunch and Q&A session.
Chicago human-rights attorney Jay Paul Deratany hosted the event, which took place at The Kirby.
The Hindu Prince is the 39th heir to a 650-year-old Indian dynasty, and is the only openly gay prince in the world, according to BestGayChicago.com . In 2006, Manvendra received the UNAIDS Civil Society Award from the United Nations, and appeared twice on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Windy City Times has interviewed Gohil twice, most recently in 2013. In 2000, he started Lakshya Trustof which he is now the chairmanan organization dedicated to HIV/AIDS education and prevention for gay and bisexual men. Gohil also started the charity Ekta Transglobal Foundation, and hosted a private fundraiser last year at Deratany's home.

HBHC raises minimum wage for Brown Elephant workers
Effective immediately, Howard Brown Health Center ( HBHC ) has raised the minimum wage for Brown Elephant employees to $10.10/hour.
The increase is in concert with President Obama's recent executive order raising the minimum wage for federal contractors.
There are three Brown Elephant sites: two in Chicago ( 3020 N. Lincoln Ave. and 5404 N. Clark St. ) and one in Oak Park ( 217 Harrison St. ).
Gender/sexuality group seeks workshop submissions
The Gender and Sexualities Studies Working Group is soliciting submissions for the upcoming fall quarter.
Students and papers can be from any field, discipline, or methodological tradition, as long as the research is relevant to gender and sexuality studies, broadly defined.
Interested persons should submit abstracts to gssworkinggroup@gmail.com . Please include a substantive description of the work ( 500 words ) as well as a brief description ( no more than 250 words ) of the type of project. The deadline is Sept. 19 for abstracts.
The working group will meet on alternate Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:00 in the first floor seminar room of the Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality at 5733 S. University Ave.
