Harry S. Truman College, located in Uptown,

announced that it will name its new student services

center after late state Rep. Larry McKeon.

McKeon, who was openly gay and HIV-positive,

was largely responsible for the creation of

the new student services center, a $55 million

project slated to open in 2010.

McKeon passed away May 2008.

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at

the new Larry McKeon Administrative Building

construction site at noon Aug. 19. Construction

of the building will begin Aug. 18.
