LezFest: A One Night Fling, a celebration in words, songs, music and theater was held July 28 at Mary's Attic as a benefit for Pride Films and Plays.
Featured performers who were slated to perform included Christy Hasselson, 2006 winner of Windy City Gay Idol; Lauren Sivak, published storyteller in Story Club Magazine and Managing Director for Walkabout Theatre; Shannon Matesky, slam poetry champion & known from her solo show She Think She Grown; Singers Amy Geist, Liz Pazik. Florence Nighinjail, and Libby Lane; Poet Angelique Nelson; Performance artists Angelica Roque and Rebecca Kling; Ali Hoefnagle, storyteller, actor and Education and Outreach Director for About Face Theatre; EL Stories XV: Rainbow Train performance from the Waltzing Mechanics; and MC Shanna Brown. Tara Branham directed, and the evening was produced by Libby Lane and Chrystle Morman.
LezFest was a fundraiser for PFP's Women's Words Week. That progam includes Women's Words Film Fest, short lesbian films written or directed by women, on Monday, Sept. 15 at Public House Theater on Clark. And a weekend of readings, writing challenges, performances and celebrity appearances Sept. 19 to 21 at Center on Halsted.
