Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles announce 2011/12 Concert Season
From a news release
2011-10-07

CHICAGO, Oct. 7, 2011 — Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles, the premier family of Chicagoland music ensembles for members and friends of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, today announced its 2011/12 Concert Season. Performing masterworks spanning a wide variety of musical genres, the Lakeside Pride Symphony Orchestra concerts will be held at the Center on Halsted (3656 N. Halsted St.) and the Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band concerts will be held at the Preston Bradley Center (941 W. Lawrence).

The Lakeside Pride Symphony Orchestra opens the season on Tues., Oct. 11, under the baton of Conductor Greg Hughes at the Center on Halsted. There will be a special FREE reception beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Hoover-Leppen Theatre, sponsored by Barefoot Wine & Bubbly. Tickets are still available for the 7:30 p.m. performance. The Symphony Orchestra season continues through June 2012.

For the fourth year, Conductor Kyle Rhoades will lead the 70-member Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band for performances and at the Preston Bradley Center. The ensemble will present two themed concerts, Dance Around the World on Sat., Nov. 19, 8:00 p.m. and Salute to Uptown, Sat., March 31 at 8:00 p.m. Alderman James Cappleman will serve as the guest emcee for both concerts.

The Lakeside Pride Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Omar Fong-Bances, will perform an expansive range of music — from jazz to Broadway to rock 'n roll — in a series of special appearances. Upcoming performances include the closing night reception of the Reeling Film Festival (4050 N Milwaukee Ave.) on Sat., Nov. 12 at 8:00 p.m. and the Sulzer Regional Chicago Public Library (4455 N. Lincoln) on Mon., Dec. 5. at 7:00 p.m.

The prestigious Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame has named Lakeside Pride as a 2011 inductee. This honor reflects the contributions hundreds of Lakeside Pride ensemble members, and its supporters, have made to the City of Chicago. There will be a special FREE induction ceremony on Wed., Nov. 9 at the Chicago History Museum (1601 N. Clark St.).

To purchase tickets for any of the upcoming performances, or for additional information, visit LakesidePride.org .

The 2011/12 Season is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and a CityArts grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

Lakeside Pride proudly acknowledges Barefoot Wine & Bubbly as a sponsor of the 2011/12

Season.

Additional support was provided by Center on Halsted, Gerber/Hart Library & Archives, Lawyers for the Creative Arts, Holland & Knight, mc2 Communications, Preston Bradley Center, Jim Prueter, The Saints — Volunteers for the Performing Arts, and WGN Radio.
