CHICAGO - NOVEMBER 3, 2014. "Lady Balls," a new comedic and music driven play premiering at The Annoyance Theatre, portrays a team of WMBA superstars and their tyrant of a coach trying to win their 20th title. The play premieres at the new Annoyance Theatre on November 6th, and opens November 20th.
Legendary and controversial coach/anger monster Deb Champion is looking for her 20th title with her University of North Tallahassee Lady Fireballs. However, forces align to stop Deb from continuing her domination, and her players begin to crack under pressure, having endured her rage for far too long.
The show was written by Annoyance regular John Loos. John said his inspiration stemmed from college, "I was a photographer for the yearbook and ended up shooting several women's basketball games. That, coupled with seeing a few specials on the legendary Pat Summit made me really want to create a show about the world of women's college basketball, specifically the coaches. It's such a rich world of aggression, unchecked emotion, joy, loss and friendship. I wanted to create a sports show that didn't feel or look like any sports show I'd seen. The show follows a powerhouse team and coach instead of the underdogs. It explores the burden of winning and the burden of being the best. And it has lots of amazing pantsuits and wigs."
Director Andy Eninger helms a cast of nine actors, including John Loos, Julie Marchiano, Shantria Jackson, Wolfgang Stein, Kimberly Vaughn, Sayjal Joshi, Carley Moseley, Lindy Voeltner, and Susie Gutowski.
"Lady Balls," previews in the new Annoyance Theatre's Mainstage, Thursday November 6th at 8:00 p.m. The show opens November 20th and runs through January 22nd.
