The LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Illinois hosted a celebration of Chicago's Black LGBT business advocates and owners Feb. 22 at the Currency Exchange Cafe, 305 E. Garfield Blvd. on Chicago's South Side. Chamber Executive Director Jerome Holston welcomed the crowd of about 30 to the event.

The moderator was Vince Williams, director of membership and business development at The Executives' Club of Chicago and co-owner of a men's shoe company, Alexander Noel.

The panelists were: Taylor Mason, owner of Taylor's Tacos; Brian D. Johnson, CEO of The Common Wealth Initiative; Kim L. Hunt, executive director of the Pride Action Tank; and Peter Gaona, a former dancer and owner of Reformed School, a fashion company.

The discussion ranged from being out as an LGBT, and African American, business, to tips on marketing and obstacles to success.
