LETTER Missing Marc
2020-04-03

facebook twitter google +1 reddit email

Dear Editor:

I want to add some thoughts about the contributions Marc Loveless made beyond those mentioned in his obituary in the March 18 issue of Windy City Times.

Marc was involved in the Illinois Regional Committee for the planning of the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay and Bi Rights and Liberation. Loveless also participated in the contingent for Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Transgender people in the Bud Billiken Parade on the south side of Chicago. Despite originally being excluded by the Daily Defender, the parade's organizer, our contingent was successful partly because of Loveless's participation, then and throughout the '90s.

He was also involved in the Coalition of People of Color's decision to boycott the 1997 AIDS Walk due to the lack of representation of organizations from the West and South sides, or from being part of the funding and partnership in the AIDS Walk Network. He was an advocate for the concerns of LGBTQ people on the West and South sides who faced homophobic and violent attacks in community institutions.

By the way, Loveless was related to Motown composers Janie Bradford and the late Hank Cosby.

I didn't always agree with him, but I think he will be missed.

Darrell Gordon
