'Gay marriage should be between a man and a woman' — Arnold Schwarzenegger to Fox News
Do you think if we changed the semantics of the community that we might make more progress in less time? Marriage rights (like mom, dad and the religious right) would not be an issue and 'familial unions' might be a more democratic across- the-board protection/solution for the entire community and not just the select few who choose to imitate mom and dad.
Perhaps even those who identify with the fantasy of slavery would not be so confused into 'betraying' their 'masters' by becoming 'boys.' True versatiles (they do exist) would not feel peer pressured into a black or white existence (top or bottom, nothing in between). So just say no to 'marriage'—as a legal term only. Let religious institutions keep it. That way everyone's happy.
Marriage update: California extends to gay couples nearly the same rights as married couples. Advocates claim it's the taxes that make the whole marriage package defensible. But Californians still will not be able to file joint taxes but will be eligible to be on each other's health plan, expanded benefits for property ownership, child custody and more. The law won't be implemented until January 1, 2005, giving those a chance to bow out before the responsibilities inherent in a partnership take hold. Vermont, however, does allow couples to form joint taxes.

A farewell bash is eminent.
Los Angeles' 15-year-old National Black Lesbian and Gay Leadership Forum has disbanded its operation, blaming the usual culprits, perennial debt, board participation and the usual gay drama, leaving a void on a national level for Black gay-interest groups. In the meantime, AMASSI Health, Culture, Affirmation is promising to be an affirmative source of African-American pride in the gay community, visit their Web site www.amassi.com .
Why people of Color need to get involved: A recent vaccine discovery seen to be 78% effective in African Americans has yet to be approved for Blacks based on data study. The argument that the participation numbers for Blacks was too low to provide accurate vaccine results, shows how important it is for Blacks to step up and participate in research.
