Colored peoples Hour, Negro History Week, Black History month. Who says we have not made progress?
Nothing new I can say about International Mr. Leather that hasn't been said every year, and it's all good! Yes, Palmer House Hilton was sold out. Yes, the 25th anniversary was promising to be the most talked about of all IML's.
[See coverage in the May 28 Windy City Times, plus next month's BLACKlines—this issue went to press before IML '03.]

If you are a titleholder past/present/future, remember that your needs come first. The better off you are personally, professionally, and financially the better of a role model you are to not only those who follow you, encouraging future activists who might otherwise do nothing without your
sterling example. The best role model is one who leads by example. If you need to miss an event because you're sick, or the rent needs to be paid, or aunt Agnes is coming' to dinner, then do it!
The title system is not set up to produce victims or heroes but to represent the successful union of
reality and fetish. Do not let one overshadow the other. As a titleholder you owe the community a good example of successful life integration. After your year is up, stay available to mentor, but hand the sash over to the archives. If you have done well, your legacy will tell. Do not have a lifestyle. Have a life. Again, good luck IML and Ebony Contestants!
We aren't so different after all dept.

Shiite pilgrims from all over Iraq mourned the death of their sect's founder in a mass outpouring that was as much political as religious.
