The Lesbian Community Cancer Project ( LCCP ) announced that it received a $50,000 grant to build support for comprehensive clean indoor air policies among LGBT leaders. The initiative is one of 17 projects supported by Tobacco Policy Change: A Collaboration for Healthier Communities and States, a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation ( RWJF ) .
According to LCCP executive director Jessica Halem, the grant will help to 'educate the LGBT community about the disproportionate impact tobacco has on our community and how clean indoor air in workplaces is a positive step forward for the public's health.'
The announcement marked the second round of three one-year grant awards, which vary in range from $50,000 to $150,000.
The annual LCCP Coming Out Against Cancer Gala is this Saturday, Feb. 4 at the South Shore Cultural Center. This year, for the first time, the event includes a sit-down dinner, followed by the dance. Tickets to the dinner begin at $150, but the dance itself is just $60 in advance, $75 at the door. Call ( 773 ) 561-4662, or see www.lccp.org .
