The Lambda Literary Foundation announced that Lisa C. Moore has been named editor of its flagship publication, The Lambda Book Report.

Her appointment marks what the Foundation believes is the first time an African-American lesbian has headed a national Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender magazine aimed at the general GLBT audience.

Moore's appointment "actually formalizes a role she has been serving in the publication for over six months," said Foundation Executive Director Jim Marks, who will assume the Senior Editor title.

Moore is the founder and editor of RedBone Press, which publishes work that celebrates the culture of Black lesbians and further promotes understanding between Black gays and lesbians and the Black mainstream. RedBone's first book, does your mama know? An Anthology of Black Lesbian Coming Out Stories, won two 1997 Lambda Literary Awards, for Small Press and Lesbian Studies.

The second title, the bull-jean stories, by Sharon Bridgforth, won the 1998 Lambda Literary Award for Small Press. Forthcoming is an anthology Spirited: Affirming the Soul and Black Gay/Lesbian Identity.

Moore is currently in production for sassy b. gonn: Searching for Black Lesbian Elders, a video documentary stemming from her master's research in anthropology (University of Texas, 2000). Moore was also lead organizer of the Fire & Ink writers festival for LGBT people of African descent held at the University of Illinois-Chicago in September 2002.

A native of New Orleans, where her father "Deacon John" Moore is a nationally renowned musician, Moore attended Georgia State University and worked at the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Moore is featured in a profile on In the Life TV which will be airing nationally in November.
