CHICAGO ( June 7, 2017 ) — Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation ( LSCRF ) is proud to announce Academy Award-Winning Actress and two-time cancer survivor, Kathy Bates as their Guest Speaker at the 32nd Annual Fall Benefit Luncheon on Monday, October 2 at the Hilton Chicago, 720 South Michigan Avenue. Proceeds will support innovative contributions to breast cancer research, fellowships and educational programs at Northwestern Medicine and the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.

Fall Benefit Luncheon

The 32nd Anniversary Fall Benefit Luncheon is co-chaired by Sofia Ahmad Jones and Julie Roth Novack. About Kathy Bates

Honored numerous times for her work, Kathy is an undeniable force on stage, screen and television.

She first gained the attention of critics and audiences in the original Broadway production of 'night, Mother, in which she was nominated for a Tony award. She has been honored with several Obie Awards, including her performance in the Off-Broadway production of Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.

Her many film credits include an Academy Award® and a Golden Globe® for her portrayal of obsessed fan "Annie Wilkes" in Rob Reiner's 1990 hit Misery. In 1999, she received Oscar®, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations and won a Screen Actors Guild ( SAG ) Award® and a Critics Choice Award for her performance in Mike Nichols' Primary Colors.

On television, Bates will next be seen in the highly anticipated Netflix pot-comedy series ( August 25, 2017 ), Disjointed, about a mom ( Bates ), who runs her own marijuana dispensary with the help of her son. Recently, in television, she received critical acclaim for her role as "Joan Blondell" in FX's Feud, opposite Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange. She has received 12 Emmy Award® nominations and two Emmy awards, the first for her work on Two and a Half Men and the second, as the deliciously evil "Madame LaLaurie" in the third installment of the series American Horror Story: Coven. She also has been honored for her work behind the camera as a director.

Bates also is an avid philanthropist and a two-time cancer survivor. In March 2017, she received the "Isadore Rosenfeld Award for Impact on Public Opinion" from Research! America at their annual Advocacy Awards in Washington D.C.

Since its inception in 1985, LSCRF has raised over $32 million toward advancing the understanding of breast cancer. For the last 26 years, LSCRF has been affiliated with Northwestern Medicine, helping to fund research at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center in novel treatments, education and early detection of breast cancer. LSCRF funds fellowships in breast surgery, breast imaging, pathology and hematology/oncology to ensure that more patients have access to professionals with advanced training in the treatment of breast cancer. LSCRF is proud to fund two patient navigators in the community of Chicago Lawn to address the disparity of breast cancer care to have a direct and positive effect on a group of Chicago women who are not currently being screened or treated for breast cancer.
