The British Columbia Coroners Service's report stated that the late Glee star Cory Monteith died of mixed drug toxicity involving intravenous heroin use and alcohol ingestion, the L.A. Times reported. The report also ruled the 31-year-old's death accidental. The final findings support initial results of the July 13 death of the actor, who had long battled addiction. Monteith, who played Finn Hudson on the Fox musical dramedy, was found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver.

For that same night ( Oct. 27 ), Oprah Winfrey has made it a night of special gay programming on her network, OWN, according to Out.com . She will start with Oprah's Next Chapter focused on Being Gay in Hollywood ( 9 p.m. EST ), and it will feature a conversation with Wanda Sykes, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Dan Bucatinsky. Then, the network will premiere the documentary Bridegroom, which tells the real-life story of gay couple Shane Bitney Crone and the film's namesake, Tom Bridegroom. Bridegroom will be out on DVD Nov. 19.
Delegates to the inaugural SAG-AFTRA National Convention unanimously approved an historic resolution recognizing and supporting the union's LGBT members, a press release stated. The resolution states that SAG-AFTRA stands with LGBT members and fully supports their rights to equal employment opportunity and discrimination-free workplaces. The resolution was submitted jointly by the union's newly elected national officers, including President Ken Howard and Executive Vice President Gabrielle Carteris. A recently released report, "Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Diversity in Entertainment: Experiences and Perspectives of SAG-AFTRA Members," detailed the discrimination LGBT actors face.

A study has found that most people would rather have a caffeine fix when they first wake up instead of sex, according to a New York Post item. The study by Le Méridien hotel group discovered that 53 percent of its guests favored coffee over sex as the perfect way to start the day. The research showed worldwide addiction to coffee was so great 78 percent of respondents would abstain from alcohol, social media or sex with their partner for a year rather than miss out on coffee for the same amount of time.

After opening Dec. 19, 2012, it subsequently played 43 weeks and 344 performances, holding the record for the biggest weekly gross in the history of that venue. The production played to more than 100-percent capacity every week since it opened. A Chicago return is planned for the 2014-15 season.

Joan Rivers has settled with Writers Guild of America ( WGA ) East over a dispute involving her show Fashion Police, according to Deadline.com . Rivers said she will not "render any writing services even though as a comedian and SAG-AFTRA host, I often write material for myself." The WGA East had set an Oct. 14 disciplinary hearing in New York to determine if the E! host violated the union's rules by writing and performing showrunner duties for the E! Network show during its current writers strike. She has also agreed to meet with E! to advocate for immediate contract negotiations in support of the Fashion Police writers, WGA East president Michael Winship said.
