How does Chicago compare with all of the other cities you are visiting on your promotional tour for The Lair?
So far, it's the only other city I've been to in America that I believe I could actually live in. I had no idea the city was so water-centric. It's such a great balance to the metropolis. Plus, Chicago has seasons, and it's clean!
What are some of your favorite spots?
Well I haven't gotten to explore too much because when I'm here, I'm here on business. But I did get to check out Sidetrack and Roscoe's. I like being able to walk to restaurants and bars from the little bed and breakfast we're staying at. It's so nice not having to get in a car! You can't walk anywhere in LA.
Do you have a hard time walking around Boys Town? Are you recognized?
Yeah, but I love it. It's great to be able to talk to fans in person. And everyone is so nice. A lot of guys have commented on how they really appreciated me having the balls to come out publicly at this point in my career. That's what makes me feel the best. Yeah, it's flattering to have them tell you they like your acting, and they think you're cute... but when someone tells me I've personally affected them, that makes me feel awesome.
What kind of fun and outrageous offers have you received from fans?
There was one guy who confused me with a porn star and asked me for a full frontal autographed photo. And he was willing to pay me for it! He went on and on about how he was happy I was entering into the real acting world. I felt kinda bad to have to let him down by telling him I had no porn history, but I couldn't let him go on believing that. So I'm like, 'that's not me bro, but I can send a headshot!' And I did.
Halloween is coming up. What are your plans?
In Los Angeles, the only option is to go to Santa Monica Boulevard. Every man, woman, child and tranny shows up on the streets of West Hollywood to party like rock stars. It's an amazing time.
Will you be dressing up this year?
Hell yeah! But I haven't figured out my costume yet. I got a lot of Superman comparisons after last month's spread in The Advocate so maybe I'll go for the Clark Kent thing. Suit and a superman shirt underneath? I'll have to allow my boyfriend to play dress up with me.
Little David Moretti must have looked adorable in his Halloween costumes.
One year I was a hick mechanic. I wore a mullet, trucker hat, and overalls with nothing else. That went over pretty well! And I never wrestled in high school, so one year I ordered a singlet and headgear and dressed the part. Oh wait, that was last year!
What was your favorite candy growing up?
There was this candy bar called Whatchamacallit. I don't even remember what it tasted like, but I liked saying the name so much, I forced myself to love it.
Did you watch 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown' and all the other Halloween cartoon specials?
No, I watched the marathons of Freddy or Jason. I was obsessed with the gory monster-killer movies. I would dress up in the hockey mask and the Freddy glove. The funny thing is I would literally scare the shit out of myself and have to sleep with the door open.
You were a fan of Freddy and Jason? So working with vampires everyday is not so much of a stretch for you.
No, I guess not. Now, everyday is like Halloween for me. I guess that's why I still sleep with the door open.
