Hugh Laurie really proves he can do it all. The English actor can sing, write, direct and play multiple instruments.
Playing Dr. Gregory House in the television show House has earned him two Golden Globe Awards and six Emmy nominations. He was one of the highest paid actors on television at the time and was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as "the most watched leading man on television."
With a second album, Didn't It Rain, he is quickly adding musical skills to the list now.
He brought his Copper Bottom Band to The Vic Theatre Oct. 16, and the group provided strong supporters, even singing various solos throughout the evening.
There were several covers, beginning with "Iko Iko" and "Let the Good Times Roll." The crowd seemed to love it, even screaming "I Love You" from their seats. One male voice boomed the same adoring phrase with Laurie quickly replying with "Not here, Gary," making the audience laugh.
Standout songs in the set were "Send Me to the 'Lectric Chair" and "The Weed Smoker's Dream."
He closed with "I Wan'na Be Like You ( The Monkey Song )" from The Jungle Book and people did not want to leave the building. After 23 songs, Laurie showed that he had the chops to carry a night filled with whit and musical entertainment.
