Groff, Tambor honored at Point Foundation gala
More than 400 guests attended the annual Point Honors gala April 13 in New York to support higher education opportunities for LGBTQ students.
Golden Globe Award-winning actor Jeffrey Tambor, Tony Award nominee Jonathan Groff and Tim Hanlon, president of the Wells Fargo Foundation and an executive vice president at the Wells Fargo company, were honored at the event.
The evening celebrated the accomplishments of Point Foundation ( Point ) scholarship recipients. The event, held at the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue, raised more than half a million dollars for Point, the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of merit.
Some of the other celebrities present included Judith Light, Brad Goreski, T.R. Knight, Gaby Hoffman and Jason Collins.
Skilling to receive film honor
Cinema/Chicago and the Chicago International Film Festival announced that iconic WGN meteorologist Tom Skilling will be honored at the 51st Chicago International Film Festival Television Awards Ceremony Wed., April 22, at the Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile, 633 N. St. Clair St.
Skilling joins previously announced post-production house Whitehouse Post, advertising legend Tom Burrell and investigative reporter Jay Levine as distinguished honorees for the event, which WGN's Dan Ponce and ABC/Windy City Live's Ji Suk Yi will host.
Skilling will receive the inaugural Chicago Award for his outstanding career forecasting Chicago's weather.
