A group of 30 students from the West Side's Michele Clark Academic Preparatory School was honored Dec. 2 for helping to fight AIDS through raising money.
The students raised $499.05—more than other participating school—for the Let's Talk, Let's Test Foundation's ( LTLTF's ) 3rd Annual 'I Need You to Survive' African-American HIV/AIDS Walk back in May, according to a release from the agency.
Dignitaries who were scheduled to attend the event included Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan, 34th District State Rep. Connie Howard and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr.
Howard and LTLTF Executive Director Lloyd Kelly created the foundation in 2002 to confront issues regarding the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the Black community.
