Only two days after being announced as the host of the 2019 Oscars, actor/comedian Kevin Hart has stepped down over a situation involving anti-gay tweets.
Again using Twitter, Hart announced he was stepping down as host. The development happened after two videos surfaced in which he seemingly offered no apologies for anti-gay tweets Hart sent several years agoincluding one in which he threatened violence against his son if he was gay.
In leaving the hosting gig, Hart posted, "I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's....this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past."
Hart also said he "spread[s] positivity," to which Halloween actress Jamie Lee Curtis posted, "Homophobia is not positivity," People.com noted.
While Hart said he "made the choice to step down" he earlier released an Instagram video stating the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences requested that he apologize for the tweets to keep his joba request the defiant Hart refused.
