CHICAGO The director of the award-winning feature film, "Hannah Free", has announced plans to shoot her next queer feature film in Chicago this fall.
Wendy Jo Carlton, the director of "Hannah Free, which stars the Emmy-winning Sharon Gless, has announced plans to shoot the LGBT feature film, "Jamie and Jessie are Not Together". Written by Carlton, and starring Chicago actors, Jacqui Jackson ( Greta in Hannah Free ) , and Jessica London-Shields, the movie will film on location in and around Chicago on an ultra-low budget.
"Jamie and Jessie Are Not Together" is about two women whose co-dependent, loyal friendship is fraught with erotic tension. It's not about coming out; it's about two people on the cusp of adulthood, figuring out how to either grow together or how to grow apart.
Carlton explains, "This is the kind of film we want to see more of-- a cross between a lesbian buddy movie and a romantic comedy. Think 'Show Me Love' meets 'My Best Friend's Wedding', add two cute queer college girls and stir. The goal is to create a wildly popular feature film that evokes the experience of young love and lust, which just so happens to have lesbian protagonists."
Executive Producer Catherine Halley explains the film's appeal, "This film has good bones--complex characters, a simple story line, gorgeous cinematography--and great legs. Our hope is that it will appeal to both the niche LGBT audience hungry for movies that reflect our lives in all their complexity, as well as viewers who love and support independent films like "Garden State" and 'Lost in Translation'."
The film will be shot on location in Chicago this fall, and is expected to make the film festival circuit in the summer of 2011. The producers are now seeking extras for the film and those interested should send a headshot to: juicyplanet@gmail.com ( Attn: cast ) .
Donations are now being accepted through the website Kickstarter.com which helps filmmakers get projects off the ground. Contributions start at 10 dollars and every level includes rewards such as a DVD, signed screenplay, official comic book version of the film, and producer credits. The Kickstarter campaign ends August 31st with the goal of 14k for production funds.
