The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) announced that Jennifer Lopez will receive the 2013 Ally for Equality Award at HRC's sold-out National Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 5, in Washington, D.C., according to a press release. HRC President Chad Griffin said, "We recognize Jennifer for her talent, style, compassion, philanthropy and generosity, but foremost for her public commitment to LGBT equality." Currently, Lopez executive-produces ABC Family's hit TV series The Fosters, which is about a multiethnic family mix of foster and biological kids being raised by two moms.

Out actor Matt Bomer (TV's White Collar) is slated to play Montgomery Clift in a biopic of the late gay actor, according to Deadline.com . Larry Moss will direct a script from Christopher Lovick, and they are shooting for a 2014 start date. At his prime, Clift rivaled Marlon Brando as Hollywood's biggest male star, moving from stage roles to screen success in films like A Place In The Sun and From Here To Eternity. Clift's matinee-idol good looks were destroyed in a car accident that left him with a broken nose and facial scars; however, he continued to make movies until his death.

Bravo has set a reunion special for groundbreaking makeover show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, according to Variety. Andy Cohen will host Queer Eye Reunion: 10 Years Later in October, and it will bring the "Fab Five" back together: food and wine connoisseur Ted Allen, grooming guru Kyan Douglas, designer Thom Filicia, fashionista Carson Kressley and culture maven Jai Rodriguez. The original show ran during 2003-07, a run of 100 episodes.

Bravo announced one new and five returning series beginning this November, TheWrap.com noted. The Real Housewives of Atlanta (season six) and Fashion Queens (season two) will premiere Nov. 3, while The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (season four) and Vanderpump Rules (season two) debut the following day. On Nov. 5, Shahs of Sunset (season three) premieres, while Nov. 10 marks the new series premiere of Thicker Than Water, which follows Ben and Jewel Tankard, who call themselves "The Black Brady Bunch."

Fuse, the national music television network of The Madison Square Garden Company, will launch the brand-new original series Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce on Wed., Oct. 2, according to a press release. With gay personality Big Freedia as its guide, this new unscripted series explores the underground world of the New Orleans hip hop scene known as "bounce." Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce is set to run for eight episodes and is produced by World of Wonder (RuPaul's Drag Race, Million Dollar Listing, Life with La Toya).

Television style expert and celebrity hairstylist Terrence Davidson released the fall campaign ad for the Just My Color hair extension line, featuring transgender models celebrating the unique diversity of the hair collection, according to a press release. The Just My Color hair collection website launched Sept. 17. Davidson is most known as the former wig creator and chief hairstylist for rapper Nicki Minaj; he has also styled Jennifer Hudson, Patti Labelle, Tyra Banks and Mary J. Blige.

On the heels of a public declaration that rocked the hip-hop community, veteran DJ Mr. Cee has partnered with AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) for a PSA on fighting the long-standing stigma of alternative sexual orientations and speaking openly about sexual health, according to Business Wire. Cee—who had been arrested in the past for, among other things, soliciting a transgender woman for oral sex—initially quit his job at HOT 97, but was encouraged to return by station program director Ebro Darden, to whom Cee emotionally opened up on air about his sexual identity.

Actress/activist Jane Fonda will auction off the glamorous dress she wore to this year's Academy Awards at the Oct. 3 EmPower Party benefiting the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential, which she founded in 1995, according to Access Atlanta. The upcoming fundraiser, to be held at the Georgia Aquarium, will feature a conversation between Fonda—currently starring as Nancy Reagan in Lee Daniels' The Butler—and CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

Singer and performer Frenchie Davis, best known for her appearances on American Idol and The Voice, is starring in a new video for the anti-bullying organization Friend Movement, according to SheWired.com . In the video, Davis discusses her personal experience with bullying, much of which stems from her being plus-sized. Openly bisexual, Davis says she has not only faced homophobia, but also prejudice from within the gay community. "Women in the lesbian community don't fully accept me because I'm still attracted to men, she says." However, she encourages her fans to be who they are and to stand up to bullying.

Casa Casuarina, the Miami Beach palace that once belonged to the late fashion designer Gianni Versace, sold at auction for $41.5 million, according to the New York Daily News. The winning bid was placed by VM South Beach LLC, a group that includes the Nakash family, which owns Jordache Enterprises. Joe Nakash, owner of the Victory Hotel next door, plans to turn the mansion into a hotel.

The late Anna Nicole Smith was brought back to life recently in the premiere of Anna Nicole, an opera starring Sarah Joy Miller at Brooklyn's Howard Gilman Opera House. Attendees included Rufus Wainwright, and Judge Larry Seidlin, who presided over the custody battle for Smith's daughter, Dannielynn. The after-party at Skylight One Hanson featured a cotton-candy station, a pole dancer and a paparazzi-themed photo booth.

Former supermodel Iman has accused high-profile brands such as Chanel and Victoria Beckham of having "racist" motives for not using black models, according to IBTimes.co.uk. Iman, 58—who has walked for brands ranging from Halston to Calvin Klein—claimed that a lack of models of color in catwalk shows proved that there was little racial diversity in the fashion industry. Naming several brands after seeing London Fashion Week, Iman said "We're not calling them racist; we're saying the act was racist."

Outspoken rapper Azealia Banks has claimed that Lady Gaga stole the track "Red Flame" from Banks, according to Vibe.com . "@ladygaga make sure u let them know where u got the title for red flame from. U stole that from the demo I sent u," Banks tweeted Sept. 16. The Harlem rap artist has been known for picking fights in cyberspace.

Various people are racing to be the first to bring the late gay icon Liberace to Broadway, according to Broadway.com . Although there are plans to adapt the Emmy-winning HBO film Behind the Candelabra for the stage, the lavish bio-musical All That Glitters is looking to get there first. Producers have announced plans to bring the show, which features Three's Company star Richard Kline as one of three actors portraying the flamboyant piano man, to Broadway in December 2014 following a Toronto premiere. Broadway dancer-turned-impresario Alexander DeJong wrote the music and lyrics for "Glitters."

The duo behind the hit movie Lee Daniels' The Butler—writer Danny Strong and openly gay director Daniels—are reuniting, but in the world of television, Deadline.com noted. Strong and Daniels have been brought back together by Brian Grazer for a hip-hop drama project that had the four major broadcast networks in a bidding war before Fox won it. The deal for the TV project came just as "Butler"—starring Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey—crossed the $100-million box-office mark in North America.

Internet sensation Antoine Dodson is expecting his first child with his girlfriend—surprising many fans who thought he was gay, according to BET.com . Last May, Dodson claimed he wanted "a wife and family" and "to multiply and raise and love my family that I create." He explained that he had become a "True Hebrew Israelite descendant of Judah," concluding that he renounced his homosexuality.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Bill Clinton's alleged former mistress Gennifer Flowers claimed he once said to her that Hillary Clinton was bisexual, according to a New York Post item. Flowers said of the Clintons' marraige, "It obviously worked for them but I've never considered theirs a traditional marriage." However, Flowers also said she'd support Hillary if she ran for president, adding, "The support I would give Hillary is as a woman."

A production company is suing Project Runway designer Irina Shabayeva for sabotaging her own Fashion Week show with diva-like behavior, the New York Post reported. The reality-TV show's sixth-season winner reportedly arrived very late" for the show, "did not cooperate with the models," and then took her items and left the building, leaving 300 guests in a lurch. However, an attorney for Shabayeva said his client plans to counter-sue New York Fashion Shows founder Trisha Prasad, saying Prasad canceled the show because she did not have models available.

Benedict Cumberbatch (TV's Sherlock; Star Trek) will star in the Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game, according to Digital Spy. Turing—credited with cracking the German Enigma Code during World War II—was eventually convicted for indecency for being gay and chemically castrated before committing suicide in 1954. Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode and Mark Strong are also in the film, which just recently started filming in London.

Syfy has teamed with out X-Men director Bryan Singer and his Bad Hat Harry Prods. (House) for Creature At Bay, a drama series that will be developed as a 90-minute pilot script, Deadline.com reported. Creature At Bay is set in the wake of the U.S. military taking down a giant, rampant creature—a modern-day "Kaiju" monster—just off the Northern California coast. A middle-management undersecretary from the California Emergency Management Agency is charged with leading the clean-up efforts as the small town becomes the focus of the entire world.

The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada is presenting out TV personality Ross Mathews with the first-ever Qmmunity Advocate Award at the annual Honorarium on Oct. 19 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, according to a press release. Mathews—who made his TV debut on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and now has his own talk show, Hello Ross—will join other honorees this year, including Barbara Molasky (Person of the Year); Ron Quinn (Volunteer of the Year); and UFC (Corporation of the Year).

Lesbian actress Kelly McGillis—who has starred in movies such as Top Gun and Witness—will play an Amish aunt in the TV movie Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio, according to TheWrap.com . (She was Amish in Witness, which was released almost 30 years ago.) The television film—a romantic mystery/suspense drama that stars Sarah Lancaster and Tom Everett Scott—will premiere on the cable network UP next year.

Actress/pop star Selena Gomez was forced to cancel two concerts in Russia after government officials denied her visa, reportedly due to stricter transit laws for foreign artists, Out Traveler noted. Organizers, however, believe Gomez, who supports gay rights, was the victim of a controversial new law in Russia barring "propaganda on nontraditional sexual relationships" to minors. Prior to the canceling of the shows, Gomez was facing pressure to take a stand on LGBT rights in the former Soviet Union as the subject of a Change.org petition drafted by activist, writer and blogger John Becker.

Openly gay Chicagoland resident Andy Herren won the 15th season of Big Brother, beating GinaMarie Zimmerman and Spencer Clawson to earn the $500,000 prize, according to the Huffington Post. The jury voted seven to two for Herren over Zimmerman. However, the news isn't all good for Herren: In a season filled with controversy over racist and anti-LGBT language the contestants used, Zimmerman, Clawson, Aaryn Gries and Herren have all reportedly lost their jobs. Herren reportedly agreed with Zimmerman that many of the evicted houseguests were "robotic biracials," resulting in him losing his part-time instructor gig at the College of DuPage, Towleroad noted.

LGBT-rights advocate Andrew Kravis won $2.6 million on the NBC game show Million Second Quiz, according to Towleroad. Kravis is an LGBT rights advocate and Columbia Law School grad who is about to start a fellowship at Lambda Legal, the nation's oldest and largest legal organization working for LGBT rights. The 25-year-old Kravis defeated Brandon Saunders in the final trivia round to take home first place.

Grace Jones—the legendary Jamaican model, actress and singer—has announced she will release a memoir next fall, according to the Houston Chronicle. The 65-year-old Jones will tell about her years partying at Studio 54, rooming with Jerry Hall, hanging out with Jessica Lange and collaborating with Andy Warhol. Jones had once famously said in her song "Art Groupie" that she would never write her memoirs, but said in a statement that she decided if she didn't someone else would.

When asked if he would ever lie for a celebrity friend who's still in the closet, former 'NSync member Lance Bass said, "Yes, I would, and I have," in a backstage clip from his appearance on the new talk show Bethenny, according to Gay.net . Bass added, "I know tons of celebrities that are in the closet right now but it's up to them to decide if they want to come out and I will support whatever decision they make."

In her divorce from actress Jane Lynch, Dr. Lara Embry is asking Lynch to pay her $93,809 a month in spousal support, according to a Huffington Post item. Embry stated that Lynch's "income, investments and assets increased dramatically with her newfound acting success," with TMZ reporting that Embry wants to be able to sustain the lifestyle she was used to during the couple's three-year marriage. In divorce documents Lynch filed in July, the actress said that she wanted to terminate the court's jurisdiction to award Embry spousal support; however, in interviews, Lynch has indicated that she's nonchalant about Embry possibly getting a large settlement.

Forty years ago (Sept. 20, 1973) legendary lesbian tennis icon Billie Jean King faced off against Bobby Riggs in an exhibition match dubbed the "Battle of the Sexes," History.com noted. The 55-year-old Riggs, a former Wimbledon champion, believed he could still beat any woman player. (King has revealed in an interviewed that she only played him after he defeated Margaret Court, who was the top-ranked women's player at that time.) King defeated Riggs 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 in front of more than 30,000 fans at the Houston Astrodome, then the largest crowd ever to watch a tennis match.

While a few shows and performers won as expected, surprises seemed to be the norm at the 65th Annual Primetime Emmys that took place Sept. 22 on CBS. The ABC show Modern Family—which includes a gay family among its main characters—won its fourth consecutive award for best comedy (the first time that's happened); however, none of the ensemble won. Jim Parsons won again for best actor in a comedy for The Big Bang Theory; in his speech, he thanked his "favorite person on the planet," partner Todd Spiewak. Behind the Candelabra—a movie about the life of late gay icon Liberace—took home several awards, and Elton John paid tribute to Liberace with his new song "Home Again." Neil Patrick Harris hosted, cracking jokes while keeping his rep as a song-and-dance man in an overall performance that garnered mixed reviews. However, the ratings were the highest in eight years (18 million viewers), Deadline reported.

Downton Abbey's long-awaited fourth season kicked off Sept. 22 in the United Kingdom with a 90-minute episode—and it set a record with 9.5 million viewers, according to Deadline.com . Season three of Downton also was PBS' highest-rated drama ever with a total of 24 million viewers. U.S. viewers will see the first season-four episode Jan. 5, 2014, on PBS; it will pick up six months after the untimely death of Downton heir Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens).

It has been a time of confessions for Oprah Winfrey. After the alleged racial incident in Switzerland and her admission that she has a fear of balloons, she has said that she exhibited signs of a nervous breakdown last year while filming The Butler, according to a USA Today piece. The emotional epiphany came to her last fall, when she was interviewing Kony 2012 director Jason Russell, who had his own meltdown last year in San Diego, running naked down the street. "In the beginning, it was just sort of speeding and a kind of numbness and going from one thing to the next thing to the next thing," she said on Access Hollywood. "I will tell you when I realized that I thought, 'All right, if I don't calm down I'm gonna be in serious trouble.'" She said she was ready to regain control a couple weeks later when interviewing Fergie.

Actress Katey Sagal—known for her roles on TV's Married with Children (Peg Bundy) and Sons of Anarchy—is releasing her newest CD, Covered, on Entertainment One Music Nov. 12, according to a press release. Covered, is Sagal's first studio album in nine years, and features a duet with Jackson Browne ("Goodbye") as well as covers of tunes by songwriters such as Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell, Ron Sexsmith and Tom Petty.

Transgender mixed martial-arts fighter Fallon Fox has accepted Matt Mitrione's public apology five months after the UFC heavyweight's on-air rant led to his suspension, according to the Bleacher Report. Mitrione's personal attack against transgender fighter Fox saw a swift response from the Ultimate Fighting Championships in April, which called his outburst "offensive" and "wholly unacceptable." Fox—slated to fight Ashlee Evans-Smith Oct. 12—stated that Mitrione "made little mention of transsexual women in his apology. However, he did apologize for his words. So, it's a very good start. Apology accepted, Matt."

Out singer Rufus Wainwright recently performed a Sept. 20 show at the home of Bradford and Valerie Cohen—the result of an impulsive auction Wainwright staged last December, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show originated when Wainwright and his extended family of singer-songwriters performed at Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA's Christmas concerts Dec. 21-22, 2012. At the private concert (for about 90 people), Wainwright said, "My sister [Martha Wainwright] was supposed to be here [too], but she got a role in an HBO series [Olive Kitteridge]."

Sting's musical-theater project, The Last Ship, will have its world premiere at Chicago's Bank of America Theatre on June 10, 2014, according to the Wall Street Journal. The five-week run in Chicago precedes an opening on Broadway next fall. The musical, with an original score by Sting and a book by John Logan (Red) and Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal), is directed by Joe Mantello (Wicked) and choreographed by Steven Hoggett (Once).

On Sept. 24, the musical Chicago, currently at the Ambassador Theatre, celebrated its 7,000th performance on Broadway, according to Playbill.com . This milestone has only been achieved twice before in Broadway history: by Cats (which closed in its 18th year after 7,485 performances) and The Phantom of the Opera (now in its 26th year). The revival opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in November 1996. The current cast includes Bianca Marroquin as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Ryan Silverman as Billy Flynn, Paul C. Vogt as Amos Hart, Roz Ryan as Matron "Mama" Morton, and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.

Nicole Kidman's Grace of Monaco has been delayed until 2014, according to Digital Spy. The film, which was originally scheduled for limited release in November, will no longer be in contention for the upcoming awards season. La Vie en Rose director Olivier Dahan has been given more time to complete the Grace Kelly biopic. Academy Award winner Kidman had been mentioned as a possible awards contender for her role as the movie-legend-turned-princess.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe may play the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in a biopic, according to Digital Spy. Sacha Baron Cohen was previously attached to the biographical project, but pulled out earlier this year after disagreeing with the film's direction. Radcliffe is said to have impressed bosses with his portrayal of gay poet Allen Ginsberg in the film Kill Your Darlings.

A protest against Russia gay-propaganda law took place Sept. 23 at the Metropolitan Opera's Russian-themed opening-night gala of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, according to the New York Times. "Putin, end your war on Russian gays!" a man shouted in the auditorium that was packed for the black-tie opening. A voice then said to Russian diva Anna Netrebko and Mariinsky Theatre Artistic Director Valery Gergiev, "Anna, your silence is killing Russian gays! Valery, your silence is killing Russian gays!" Four protesters were asked to leave and did.

Lifetime has cancelled the show Army Wives after seven seasons, and the network is planning a two-hour retrospective special with cast members that will air early next year, Deadline.com reported. The show has starred actors such as Catherine Bell, Kim Delaney, Kelli Williams, Kellie Martin (part of a lesbian storyline with Ryan Michelle Bathe), Ashanti and Brooke Shields.
