WASHINGTON Today, the Human Rights Campaign ( HRC ) released the following statement on the passing of HRC founding board member Gerald ( Jerry ) K. Weller Jr. Among his many roles as an LGBTQ civil rights pioneer, Jerry had served as the co-chair of the Gay Rights National Lobby ( GRNL ) the predecessor of the Human Rights Campaign and as GRNL's acting executive director. Jerry passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018.
'With Jerry Weller's passing, our community has lost another giant," said Vic Basile, who served as HRC's first executive director. "When few of us had the courage to be out and fighting the good fight, Jerry was there, ready to lead or simply to lend a helping hand. He was spirited, brave and selfless."
Jerry Weller's obituary in The Oregonian can be found here obits.oregonlive.com/obituaries/oregon/obituary.aspx .
The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work, and in every community.
