Pick up these gizmos and toys for all the girls and boys ( and so on ) this holiday season.
Sound off
GEAR4 ( http//www.gear4.com ) is enticing people this holiday season with items such as the AlarmDock Reveal ( $69 ) , a stylish iPod/iPhone dock with a large snooze button across the top of the speaker, and the SoundOrb Aurora ( $349 ) , a high-end stereo speaker with wireless subwoofer that features a built-in ambient light display. The translucent globe of the wireless sub displays the lights while music or movies play, providing atmosphere for any occasion. Talk about setting the mood...
Space cadet
The local attraction known as the Adler Planetarium ( www.adlerplanetarium.org ) recently opened its storeand there's no shortage of interesting items, especially for space geeks like myself. There are items for people of all ages, including planetary golf balls, a space Monopoly game and even space food. There are even spacesuits availableafter all, Halloween is just 10 months away.
Photo op
Casio ( www.casio.com ) has unveiled the EX-H20G Hybrid GPS ( $349.99 ) , which puts the standard point-and-shoot to shame. For instance, it provides users the ability to geotag their imagesthat is, it automatically records where exactly in the world an image or video was taken, even if it was indoors. It also produces 14.1-megapixel images, and has a 10X optical zoom lens.
The key ( board ) to my heart
Logitech's sleek Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 ( www.logitech.com; $79.99 ) charges whenever there's light, even indoors, making both wires and battery hassles things of the past. Because the keyboard can be powered by ambient light, you don't need to sit by a window to type. Plus, it can stay charged for at least three months in total darkness. In addition, with its PVC-free construction and fully recyclable packaging, it takes a bit step towards reducing environmental impact.
The chess and the worst
Aruliden ( www.aruliden.com; price upon request ) is known for having innovative, sophisticated products. I think this chess setcomplete with pieces made of medical-grade silicone and with 24-karat gold detailwould qualify. The ping-pong table that doubles as a chalkboard would also be in that category.
Zhip to be square
Gadgets, we love 'em! The Zhip ( www.thezhip.com; $24.95 ) is an item that turns your mobile handheld into an instant "on-the-go" entertainment center. The Zhip expands to fit any mobile device and features special retractable, "scratch-free" grip handles with protective padding that attach tightly around a mobile handheld to safeguard and secure even the most expensive device. The unit is compact ( and can easily fit into a small pocket ) . Plus, the Zhip is made from 100-percent polycarbonate "bullet-proof" materialalthough I'm not sure what you'll be doing that you'll need something that tough.
