The Sissy Butch Brothers' Gurlesque Burlesque, a funny, smart, sexy striptease show you won't want to miss, is set for two nights, July 16-17. It will feature New York City's Miss Dirty Martini (Miss Exotic World 2004) and Julie Atlas Muz, Seattle's, Miss Indigo Blue and dozens of Chicago Burlesque performers.
Shows are at the Abbey Pub, 3420 W. Grace (at Elston), $15 (to benefit documentary film on the history and revival of burlesque).

The international burlesque sensation Miss Dirty Martini, considered 'one of the best in burlesque,' by The Village Voice, will headline the show. One of the most recognized names on the national burlesque scene, Dirty Martini was recently crowned 'Miss Exotic World 2004,' the highest honor among burlesque dancers, at The Exotic World Burlesque Museum in Helendale, Calif. In 1996, Dirty Martini traveled to Sarajevo, Bosnia to perform her show-stopping fan dance to a shell-shocked public shortly after the peace accord was signed and the Serbian siege had ended. Since that time, she has declared herself harbinger of world peace and the first fan dancer to perform in post-war Bosnia. In June of 2001, she won the Sally Rand Fan Dance Award at the 'Miss Exotic World' competition. Dirty Martini delights audiences with her Balloon Striptease, Fan Dance, Classic Striptease, Dance of the Several Veils, the Wine Bath (performed over 40 years ago at Coney Island by legendary stripteaser, Tirza), and other classics.
Julie Atlas Muz, described as 'bawdy, satirical and unadulterated theater,' by The New York Times, as 'a bronco,' by Time Magazine, and as 'the most conceptual of the new guard burlesque,' by The Village Voice, will also headline 'Gurlesque Burlesque.' Since 1995, Muz has been at the very center of the burlesque resurgence. One of the most acclaimed and prolific conceptual performers and choreographers in New York, Muz sucker punches the boundaries between performance art, dance and burlesque with dark, twisted, come-hither performances that have secured her place in the underworld of nightlife as well as the bastion of the art world.
Also headlining is Miss Indigo Blue, a notoriously inventive comic striptease artist, who has been wowing crowds since her very first ballet recital in 1975. |
