Group cancels Creating Change workshop over Task Force decision

Brown People for Black Power—a grassroots collective of non-Black, queer people of color—has cancelled its Jan. 21 workshop at the Creating Change conference called "On Challenging Anti-Blackness in our Communities," according to a statement at BrownPeopleForBlackPower.tumblr.com .

The decision occurred after the National LGBTQ Task Force reversed its decision to disinvite A Wider Bridge—which Brown People for Black Power calls "a pro-Israel, pinkwashing organization"—to the conference. The statement adds, "This decision comes directly after the Task Force was publicly challenged for inviting Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( I.C.E. ) to the conference, in which I.C.E. was scheduled to speak about improving detention conditions for LGBTQ folks."

Brown People for Black Power has made demands in light of the development, including having "the Creating Change conference re-cancel the reception, and release a public statement attesting to why the reception hosted by A Wider Bridge should be cancelled."
