Greenhouse Theater Center co-owner William Spatz said July 27 that he no longer intends to produce theater at the multi-space Lincoln Park venue at 2257 N. Lincoln Ave., formerly the home of the Victory Gardens Theater, The Chicago Tribune reported.
Spatz, who owns the space with wife Wendy Spatz, cited online attacks on the couple following their decision to reopen the theater with a production of a musical revue, Judy & Liza. Spatz said he did not regret his decision to produce the show, which he said followed state and city Phase 4 guidelines, had rigorous safety precautions in place, and attracted only about 20 people to each of three weekend performances in a 200-seat theater.
The producers and creative team of Judy & Liza said that they had decided to close July 26.
Spatz said the Greenhouse would remain a rental theater.
