For Folks Who Identify Outside of the Binary or With No Gender At All

Chicago, IL, September 6, 2018 — Community members are co-facilitating another free support group for anybody 18+ who identifies as trans or gender nonconforming and is interested in attending a two-hour meeting every week for 10 weeks. The group will be held on Mondays from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at 4550 N Hermitage. Facilitators are asking for a $15 suggested donation to pay for snacks if group members are able.

The group ( formerly called "Nonbinary Support Group" ) is for TGNC folks who want to engage in a group dynamic for sharing their gender experiences, discuss successes and difficulties, and share resources. During the first meeting group members will decide what topics are of interest and create a tentative plan for upcoming sessions.

Previous group members have stated appreciation for the conversation, connection, and newfound sense of community after leaving the group. A past group member said, "I expected to share experiences and tips for things like how to address people who misgender me or refuse to use my pronouns, but I didn't realize how powerful it'd be just to share space with a beautiful spectrum of gender presentations."

This is the third support group that Mare Fanslow ( they/them ), Noam Greene ( they/them ), and Jes Scheinpflug ( they/them ) will co-facilitate together. The first group/pilot ran for eight weeks from January to March in the Uptown neighborhood and was nonbinary AFAB only. The second group was 10 weeks for all nonbinary-identified folks and was hosted in the South Loop. Organizers are actively looking for facilitators to lead a group in the Hyde Park area.

Facilitators are grateful to All Saints' Episcopal Church Chicago for allowing us to use their space after hours.

Applications are due September 18.
