Five Worth Finding: Magic Lounge, Impossible Burger, Strange Evidence

—Chicago Magic Lounge ( www.chicagomagiclounge.com/ ): As the saying goes, "Prepare to be amazed." The Andersonville spot ( which might require a little know-how just to enter ) enthralls guests with bar, table and stage magic in addition to cool drinks and impressive ulinary fare. ( Also, check out David Parr's Cabinet of Curiosities every Wednesday at the venue, and there are also family-friendly shows on Sunday afternoons. )

—Houlihan's Impossible Burger ( www.houlihans.com/ ): To attract vegetarians, many restaurants have non-meat Impossible Burgers on their menus—including Houlihan's ( currently in suburban locations only ), which has a pretty tasty burger that comes with cheddar, special sauce, lettuce and tomato on a brioche bun.

—Hudsonville Ice Cream ( www.hudsonvilleicecream.com/ ): The Michigan-based creamery is new to the Chicago market, and it justifiably belongs on shelves alongside those better-known brands. ( Currently, it's in Mariano's stores. ) The offerings are quite, well, creamy—and have a surprisingly long shelf life. I just need to try Deer Traxx, and I think my life will be complete.

—Strange Evidence ( www.sciencechannel.com/tv-shows/strange-evidence/ ): Science Channel's Strange Evidence has returned for a second season to investigate bizarre phenomena and mysteries. For example, in the premiere episode ( which aired July 10 ), scientists examine an eerie, toxic fog that creeps into an Illinois town, causing people to flee for their lives. Bizarre, indeed...

—Revealing Selves: Transgender Portraits from Argentina: In this gorgeous book ( published in the United States by The New Press ), photographer Kike Arnal collaborates with individuals in Argentinian transgender communities, documenting their everyday lives with intimate black-and-white images.
