She's Beautiful When She's Angry, the first feature-length documentary film about the birth of women's liberation in the late 1960s, is near completion. To
finish, the filmmakers, Mary Dore and Nancy Kennedy, have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund final editing and archival rights. The finished film will include historical footage not seen in more than 40 years.
She's Beautiful is both reflective and timely. The film takes up issues like equal pay, reproductive freedom, lesbian rights, and women's health. When the filmmaking began, these freedoms were threatened, and are now even more so in the midst of the current "war on women."
"It's an important film," producer /director Mary Dore emphasized. "For women who were shaped by that period, and especially for younger women — and men — our target audience." The She's Beautiful team is reaching out for help in spreading the word about the film and the Kickstarter campaign. They are asking people to forward e-mails, post on Facebook, tweet, any means to reach a wider audience.
She's Beautiful has exclusive interviews with many of the organizers of the movement, including Ellen Willis, Rita Mae Brown, the Our Bodies, Ourselves collective, Fran Beal, the pre-Roe abortion providers JANE, and activists from all over.
