CHICAGO — Fifth Third Bank is amping up its efforts to give back to the community beginning on Fifth Third Day ( 5/3 on the calendar ). Hundreds of Fifth Third Bank employees in Chicago will spend time throughout the month volunteering at area food banks and shelters and collecting donations of food from the public is all Fifth Third Bank branches.
The day of service for employees kicks off Fifth Third Bank's annual "Feeding Our Communities" food drive. bigger than ever — to provide 1 million meals to families in need throughout the bank's 10-state footprint. The public can help by stopping into any Fifth Third Bank location during the month of May to donate non-perishable food items that will go to Chicago area food banks and pantries.
"I couldn't be more gratified to be part of such an inspired project that will have us rolling up our sleeves to help our neighbors," said Eric S. Smith, market president of Fifth Third Bank. "We are proud to play a part in fulfilling the Bank's commitment to serving our communities." Smith and Robert Sullivan, regional president of Fifth Third Bank, will volunteer on Fifth Third Day alongside employees at two Deborah's Place shelters.
Area organizations benefitting from the bank's month long efforts include the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Heartland Alliance, Northern Illinois Food Bank, Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, Deborah's Place, La Casa Norte, United Way, Mothers & Children Nutrition Warehouse, Lakeview Pantry, and the Salvation Army.
