CHICAGO —As part of her ongoing efforts to educate and engage the public on important current events, state Rep. Sara Feigenholtz, D-Chicago, is co-hosting a Syrian Refugee Crisis discussion. The discussion will give an overview of the situation and will let residents know how to take action. The event will be held at Concordia Place at 3855 N Seeley Ave. in Chicago on Monday, January 30 from 6-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited so residents should RSVP for the event by emailing Daniel@staterepsara.com .
"People want to help these refugees, especially the children, but the rapidly changing nature of the crisis makes it difficult for people to obtain information," Feigenholtz said. "The changing situation, coupled with the lies spread during the presidential campaign about refugees, has created a hostile environment for refugees. This seminar will give people the information they need to help the refugees transitioning to America."
Feigenholtz is partnering with state Reps. Kelly Cassidy, D-Chicago, Ann Williams, D-Chicago, the Syrian Community Network, Syrian American Voice Empowerment, and Refugee ONE in hosting the discussion on the crisis. One of several speakers at the event will be Syrian refugee Souad Ajjan, who will tell his story and provide personal context for the crisis.
