Chicago, Ill. — Jan. 3, 2012 — Essay Fiesta, a free monthly reading series, is ringing in the New Year with a big bang. On Jan. 16 at 7 p.m., hosts Alyson Lyon and Keith Ecker will welcome another group of talented wordsmiths, including:

Columbia College professor and Jack Kerouac Writer-in-Residence David Berner

Sunday Night Sex Show producer and Bitches Gotta Eat blogger Samantha Irby

Encyclopedia Show contributor Edward Thomas-Herrera

Writer and designer Beth Cummings

Storyteller Natasha Tsoutsouris

In its first two years, the first-person, non-fiction literary revue has hosted nearly 100 artists, welcomed more than 1,000 audience members and raised nearly $5,000 for charity. Year three is certain to build on this success, especially now that Essay Fiesta has gained a new community sponsor, Southport Grocery & Cafe, which will be providing great prizes for the show's charitable raffle. One-hundred percent of all raffle contributions and donations go to benefit 826CHI.
