Equality Illinois to honor Lana Wachowski at gala

Transgender Chicago filmmaker Lana Wachowski will be presented with the 2014 Equality Illinois Freedom Award at the organization's Feb. 8 gala.
A native of Chicago's Beverly neighborhood, Wachowski has written, directed and executive-produced the Matrix trilogy as well as films Cloud Atlas, Bound and Speed Racer with her brother, Andy Wachowski.
In addition to Wachowski, it was previously announced that an Equality Illinois Freedom Award will also be going to the Chicago Urban League. Other honorees and notable figures at the 2014 Equality Illinois Galain the Hilton Chicago and chaired by Col. Jennifer N. Pritzkerwill be announced shortly.
