On April 6, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled four to two, along party lines, to block Democratic Gov. Tony Evers' executive order to postpone the April 7 election until June amid the coronavirus pandemic, The Chicago Tribune reported.
Evers initially issued an executive order postponing the state's election from April 7 until June 9.
The Democratic governor's action came after he called a special session of the state legislature April 4 to have state lawmakers move the election. The Wisconsin Senate and Assemblyboth controlled by Republicansrefused to take up Evers' proposal and insisted that the polls open on April 7, as scheduled.
Republicans challenged the governor's order in state court, leading the the April 6 decision.
